First Trip to the Movies

We went to see the new Ice Age movie, and Azucen@ was very good. She moved around a bit, standing up sometimes and sitting on our laps sometimes, but she paid attention to the story and especially liked the "chica mouse" (I think she was talking about the squirrel-type animal who chases the acorn, of which there was a female version this time).

All was well til she said she had to go to the potty. We walked to the bathroom and I sat her on the toilet, when suddenly she realized that it was a self-flushing one. Panic ensued; she is terrified of those things. She screamed, arched her back, and scooted off the toilet and tried to make her escape. When I caught her and tried to get her back on the potty, she kept sliding around and screaming until finally I took her off. Then she peed on the floor. Total meltdown.

On a positive note? We have a story to tell all ofAzucen@'s future dates about her first time at the movies!

my daughter freaks out with those automatic flushing toilets. I've now had to take a piece of toilet paper from the roll and drape it over the stupid sensor to keep the thing from flushing and terrorizing my 3 yr old. Public toilets are NO fun some days. :-)
My niece had her first experience with an auto flush toilet while at the Disney Princesses breakfast. I think everyone in the restaurant heard the shreeking coming from the restroom!

We have the opposite fun.. we wave our hands in front of the sensor to make it flush over.. and over.. and over. Several of the places we go to regularly have this seat covers that automatically cover the toilet seat with a plastic sheath (a toilet seat condom if you will), and it is also automated with a sensor that you wave your hand in front of. We try to avoid potty time there by going potty before we get there.

Bella hates those things too. I try to let her know it's an auto flush so we are careful how much we move around. :) Glad to know she liked the movie. I have been trying to decide between that and UP...and parting with a stinkin' fortune to go see a silly movie!

We also have the opposite problem, Eliot wants it to keep flushing so I can hardly get him to sit and pee. I've heard of other moms who keep a thing of post-its in their purse and use one to cover the sensor so it doesn't work. Just an idea.

Alejandro and I appreciate the cautionary (very cute!) tale. Alejandro puts his fingers in his ears whenever we flush.

On the floor? Oy vey. We use Post-its and that usually quells the madness. Great story to tell a pimply 16-year-old for Azucen's first date, tho.

ahhh, poor munchkin. I bet that really scared the dickens out of her. Some of them flush so incredibly loud that they even scare me!!! LOL
Glad she did at least enjoy the movie :-)

Ohh no! Welcome to my world. We first experienced one of these at an airport. Because of their size (or lack thereof) the toilet will often flush while they are still going. The time this happened to us my daughter flew off the toilet like a maniac and also peed on the floor and all over her pants. She was absolutely traumatized. This was right around the time she was 2. For almost 10 months after that she would refuse to go on these types of toilets calling them "Naughty Potties". Now, she still is freaked but will go if I reassure her and cover the sensor with my hand. She will now at 3 1/2 go while covering her ears which is tricky when you try covering them while also pulling down your pants, underwear and climbing on the toilet. I only have one arm free to help her as I am busy covering the sensor. It's actually quite comical LOL. Poor Azucena!

Okay, Lenci shares this phobia as well... I am one of the moms who carries post-it notes in my purse. This helps A LOT.
